Applications for 2018/2019 Academic Session Chevening Scholarships and some Chevening Fellowships are now open.

Eligibility Criteria:

To be eligible for a Chevening Award you must:
  • Be a citizen of a Chevening-eligible country
  • Return to your country of citizenship for a minimum of two years after your award has ended
  • Have an undergraduate degree that will enable you to gain entry onto a postgraduate programme at a UK university. This is typically equivalent to an upper second-class 2:1 honours degree in the UK.
  • Have at least two years’ work experience (this may be up to five years for fellowship programmes, so please refer to your country page for further details)
  • Apply to three different eligible UK university courses and have received an unconditional offer from one of these choices by 12 July 2018
  • Meet the Chevening English language requirement by 12 July 2018
You are not eligible for a Chevening Award if you:
– Hold British or dual British citizenship (unless you are a citizen of a British Overseas Territory or hold BN(O) and are applying from Hong Kong)
– Are an employee, a former employee, or relative of an employee (since July 2015) of Her Majesty’s Government (including British Embassies/High Commissions, the Department for International Development, the Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy, Department for International Trade, the Ministry of Defence and the Home Office), the British Council, or a staff member of the Association of Commonwealth Universities. Employees, former employees, or relatives of an employee (since July 2015) of Chevening Partner organisations are eligible to apply, but cannot receive a Chevening /Partner Award from the organisation for which they work, previously worked, or are affiliated with through relatives.
(Note: Immediate relatives are defined as parents or step-parents, siblings or step-siblings, children or step-children, spouse, civil partner or unmarried partner (where the couple have been in a relationship akin to marriage or civil partnership for at least two years)
– Have previously studied in the UK with funding from a UK Government-funded scholarship. However, if you have previously studied under a UK Government-funded scholarship (including Chevening), you may be eligible to apply for a Chevening Fellowship five years after completion of your initial UK Government-funded scholarship.

b) University transcripts and degree certificates (undergraduate, postgraduate)
c) Three different UK master’s course choices.

Please note that if you are eventually conditionally selected for a Chevening Scholarship, it is essential that you provide evidence that you meet the Chevening English language requirements and that you have at least one unconditional offer from an eligible course before 12 July 2018 in order to remain in the process.
Once submitted, applications undergo an electronic sift against our eligibility criteria. Any applications deemed ineligible will be removed from the selection process. Please note that once your application has been submitted, it is not possible to change it retrospectively.

Following the outcome of the referendum meeting held Sunday afternoon in Abuja by the union leaders, the Academic staff Union of Universities has declared an indefinite strike from Monday 14th August 2017. This the Union leader says is to persuade the Federal government to meet their demands. This came after several branches of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) have voted overwhelmingly for members in both federal and state universities to embark on an indefinite strike to press home the implementation of their demands.
ASUU branches nationwide on Friday held a referendum in line with an earlier directive by the National Executive Council (NEC) to vote whether the strike will be indefinite strike, one month strike, one week warning and no strike.

The meeting of ASUU NEC is currently ongoing at the union’s secretariat at Abuja to deliberate on the outcome of the referendum conducted by the branches.
Feelers from the NEC meeting indicate that several of the branches including the University of Lagos (UNILAG), University of Ibadan (UI) and Lagos State University (LASU) voted for an indefinite industrial action.

One of ASUU Zonal Coordinators told our Correspondent that his zone voted overwhelmingly for strike and that the outcome of the referendum conducted on Friday will be collated to enable the union take a position.

Among issues in contention includes, federal government breach of the 2009 FG/ASUU Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed agreement on financing grant to state universities, conditions of service, non implementation of Earned Academic Allowance (EAA) and re -negotiation of the agreement.

Other outstanding issues are non provision of revitalization funds to public universities, non release of NUPEMCO operational licence, payment of half salaries to members and government owing universities outstanding N880 billion in intervention fund.


The Chevening Secretariat is now accepting applications for 2017/2018 Chevening Scholarships and some Chevening Fellowships via www.chevening.org/apply from 8 August until 8 November 2017.

Chevening Scholarships are awarded to individuals with demonstrable leadership potential who also have strong academic backgrounds. The scholarship offers financial support to study for a master’s degree at any UK university and the opportunity to become part of an influential global network of 46,000 alumni.

The call for new applicants follows the selection of some 1,800 scholars who won an award to study at a UK university this year.

These scholarships represent a significant investment from the UK Government to develop the next cohort of global leaders.

Speaking of the opening of the new application window, the Director of the Chevening Secretariat, Michael Scott-Kline, said: ‘Those who step forward to apply for a Chevening Scholarship are already demonstrating the kind of ambitious forward-thinking that typifies Chevening Scholars. The potential rewards for applying are unquantifiable. University teachers are set for another strike over the controversial 2009 agreement they reached with the Federal Government among other issues.



A meeting of the National Executive Committee (NEC) of ASUU will hold today in Abuja ahead of the action.

Yesterday, all chapters of the union nationwide held a congress as directed by its national body to decide whether or not to go ahead with the planned strike.

The options given to them are: Whether it should be total and indefinite strike, one month strike, one week notice, and no strike at all.

This followed the directive sent to branches by ASUU National President Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi as he was mandated by the NEC meeting held at the Nasarawa State University (NSU).

Chairman ASUU-Lagos State University (LASU) Dr Isaac Akinloye Oyewunmi said yesterday that the chapter resolved in favour of “total and indefinite strike”.

In August last year, the union threatened strike over thengovernment’s failure to implement the 2009 agreement.

According to the reports gathered by Eyes Of Lagos, Coordinator of ASUU (Lagos Zone) Prof Olusoji Sowande, said the union was tired because efforts to get the agreement honoured were fruitless.

The union listed some of the unresolved issues as: Breach of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the 2009 FG/ASUU Agreement on financing of state universities; breach of the conditions of service; refusal to honour the Earned Academic Allowance (EAA) and re -negotiation of the agreement.

In January, ASUU staged a one-week warning strike.

Union officials said the Federal Government is owing universities over N880 billion in intervention fund.

Other issues according to ASUU oficials are: The Federal Government’s foot-dragging over ‘funds for the revitilisation of public universities, non-release of NUPEMCO operational licence, non-payment of earned academic allowances, payment of fractions/non-payment of salaries, retired professors and their salaries and university staff schools’.

The official said ASUU explored all channels to make the Federal Government see reasons but said: “It seems the Federal Government is more concerned with buying exotic vehicles for the National Assembly while public education and lecturers continue to suffer owing to dilapidated infrastructure.”

He said the union was angry at the failure of the Federal Government to release the operational licence for the union’s pension managers after collecting N1 billion since two years ago.

“Till date the government is owing the intervention funds to the tune of N880 billion. When we approached them for licensing of Nigerian Universities Pension Management Company (NUPEMCO), they asked us to go and bring registration fee, which is supposed to be N150million. Till date, we have paid government N1 billion and our money has been with them for two years and they are not saying anything.

None of this pension administrators can fulfill the University Miscellaneous Act which says university professors must retire with their full money. The money must have been invested and yielding interest for somebody. We are demanding our licence and funding of public universities.”



The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has said it will announce the cut-off points for the 2017 admission exercise on Monday, August 21, 2017.

It also said the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, had given the Board approval to hold the policy committee meeting on 2017 admission.
In a statement issued yesterday in Abuja, the Board said the meeting would kick-start the 2017 admission exercise.

“This year, the Board has sent candidates who scored 100 and above in their JAMB examination to the institutions in its flexible admission policy for institutions to determine the suitability of the candidates in compliance with all laid down rules and regulations as determined by the proprietors of the institutions and approved by Senate of the various schools.
‘The Board will ensure that criterion set by Senate are strictly adhered to by the institutions’ admission officers and no shifting of goal-post in the middle of the admission exercise. This is to guarantee fairness and equity to all candidates,” the statement said.
Meanwhile, the Registrar of the Board during the foundation laying ceremony for a 500 capacity twin CBT centre in Osogbo, Osun State, advised all CBT centre owners to ensure that their centres are up to date as the Board would not compromise on the 2018 accreditation exercise.



The minister of education, Malam Adamu Adamu, said on Tuesday, August 1, that three of four new universities to be built by the federal government were for the Army, Navy and Maritime. According to Adamu, the projects were kicking off soon.

Daily Trust reported that the announcement was made at the Progressive Governors Forum on Policy Synergy held in Birnin Kebbi.

He also explained that the setting up of the universities was in line with the policy of the present administration to boost education in all spheres.

However, he said that the administration needed N4.2 trillion to fund the country’s education sector, and appealed to state governments to pay their counterpart funds to access their funds.

The West African Examination Council has advised candidates who are not satisfied with the marking of their result to apply for remarking.

The Examination council gave the counsel while responding to @LawalKunle who wanted his sister’s result remarked.

The twitter user asked, “How do I call for a remark. My sister made all her results except physics D7 and she’s very sure of herself.”

And in response, WAEC wrote, “Let her school apply for her.
“It must be received 60 days after the release of the results & there is a fee.”

In what is clearly its best result in the last 10 years, the West African Examination Council (WAEC) on Monday in Lagos announced a 59.22 percent pass rate in the 2017 May/June West African Senior School Examinations (WASSCE).

This result is a huge leap from the poorest result of 2008 record of 13.76 pass rate in the number of candidates with pass in five subjects including English Language and Mathematics and three other subjects.

In view of this, the 2017 result may signal a complete departure from the era of mass failure that characterises the performance of Nigerian candidates in the regional examination.

Olu Adenipekun, Head of the National Office (HNO), addressing newsmen at the WAEC office in Yaba Lagos said a total of 923,486 candidates representing 59.22 percent obtained minimum of credits in five subjects and above, including English Language and Mathematics.

According to him, there is a slight improvement in the performance of candidates that sat for the examination as percentage of candidates in this category in WASSCE for 2015 and 2016 were 38.68 percent and 52.97 percent, respectively.

A look at the result in the last 10 years showed that candidates that sat for the examination between 2007 and 2011 had a pass rate of 25.54, 13.76, 25.99, 24.98, and 30.70 percent, respectively.

In what appeared to be the period of marked improvement by candidates from Nigeria, the periods from 2012 recorded slight improved and took a leap in 2016.

The results of the examination from 2012 to 2015 showed that the number of candidates that wrote the terminal examination as a prerequisite for admission into tertiary education and scored five credits in five subjects including English Language, Mathematics and three other subjects had pass rates of 38.81, 31.28 and 38.68 percentages, respectively.

However, it recorded a clear break from the past as the 2016 diet recorded a complete leap with 878,040 of the 1,552,758 students who sat for the May/June exams. Candidates representing 52.97 percent obtained credits in five subjects and above, including English language and Mathematics.

Speaking further on the 2017 result he said a total of 1,567,016 candidates registered for the examination out of which 1,550,162 candidates sat for the examination, adding that out of the total number of candidates that sat for the examination 1,471,151 which represent 94.36 percent have their results fully processed and released.

Olanipekun added that 95,734 candidates representing 5.64 percent had a few of their subjects still being processed due to errors traceable to the candidates in the course of registration or writing the examination.

However, he said the results of 214,952 candidates representing 13.79 percent are still being withheld in connection with various reported cases of examination malpractices.

He added that the cases are being investigated and reports of the investigations will be presented to the appropriate committee of the council in due course for consideration, stressing that the committee’s decision will be communicated to the affected candidates through their schools.

He also said with the upgrade of the council’s ICT facilities, particularly, the recently commissioned HP Converged System, a private cloud, the capacity of the Council’s ICT has now been enhanced.

“With the progressive review of our processes and procedures backed with the determination of the entire workforce of the council in Nigeria to serve the Nigerian child better and faster, the early release of the results of the WASSCE for school certificate 2017 has been made possible.

Speaking further on the breakdown of the results, Olanipekun said 1,357,193 candidates representing 87.05 percent obtained credits and above in four subjects, while 1,243,772 candidates representing 79.77 percent obtained credits and above in five subjects and 1,084,214 candidates representing 69.54 percent obtained credits and above in six subjects.


Some protesting members of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnic , Moshood Abiola Polytechnic , Abeokuta chapter, had to go diabolical in order to agitate against the alleged directive by the Technical Committee set up by the Ogun State government to upgrade the institution to a university status.

They had alleged that the committee which is saddled with the task of overseeing the transition of MAPOLY to Moshood Abiola University of Science and Technology , headed by Prof . Peter Okebukola , had issued a directive ordering the sack of over 250 lecturers in the institution to turn in their resignation letters and reapply .

Some fetish items were seen at the entrance gate to the school which was shut down by protesting lecturers.











The police said the victim was a student in the Department of History/English and was allegedly raped outside the campus in turn by the suspects.

The suspects were paraded on Wednesday by the police at the headquarters of the command in Alagbaka, Akure, the state capital.

The suspects were alleged to have recorded the illicit sexual act on video and threatened the victim that they would upload the footage online if she reported the matter to anybody.

The Ondo State Police Commissioner, Mrs. Hilda Harrison, while parading the suspects, said the victim had been taken to Ile-Ife, Osun State where she was receiving treatment, declaring that the suspects would be charged to court.

She said, “ The victim was raped and during the act, one of the suspects Adetuyi Adekunle did the video recording of the heinous crime as they took on their victim one after the other and later abandoned her to go with a threat that they would use charms on her if she revealed the incident to anyone.

“The case was reported to the school (ACE) authority and the suspect were arrested, the case has been transferred to the Department of Criminal Investigation.”

When contacted on the telephone, the Public Relations Officer of the college, Mr. Moses Akinfolarin said he was unaware of the incident.

“I am hearing it for the first time as you are telling now, I am not aware of such incident on this campus.”


The West African Examination Council (WAEC) will release the May/June 2017 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results by next week Wednesday.

This was made known in a tweet by the council via its Twitter account @waecnigeria.
It reads: “The results of the WASSCE for School Candidates, 2017 will be released by the Council, on or before Wednesday next week.”

Thee Head of National Office (HNO), WAEC in Nigeria, Mr Olu Adenipekun, had in May said that the waiting days for release of results will now be 60 days as against 90 days.

According to him, the development is one of such steps being taken by the council to meet its mandates of delivering quality service to all stakeholders.

Members of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnic, Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta chapter, grounded academic activities at the institution on Wednesday following alleged directive by the Technical Committee set up by the Ogun State government to upgrade the institution to a university status.


They had alleged that the committee which is saddled with the task of overseeing the transition of MAPOLY to Moshood Abiola University of Science and Technology, headed by Prof. Peter Okebukola, had issued a directive ordering the sack of over 250 lecturers in the institution to turn in their resignation letters and reapply.

However, in a swift reaction, Prof. Okebukola refuted the claims of the lecturers stating that they were in contrast to the position of the committee.

Eyes Of Lagos gathered that, The lecturers who protested within and outside the institution’s campus locked the gate and blocked it with two vehicles, chanting solidarity songs.

They had arrived the campus as early as 7 am, and placed fetish objects inside two calabashes containing dead snakes, sugarcane sticks, and local fowl eggs drenched in palm oil, in front of the school gate.

The lecturers were also armed with placards with various inscriptions such as “Okebukola must go” and “MAUSTECH must stay.”

They prevented vehicles from either leaving or entering the campus.

Addressing journalists in front of the gate, the ASUP chairman, Kola Abiola, said the Prof. Peter Okebukola-led committee had directed that over 250 lecturers in MAPOLY should resign and reapply as academic staff members of MAUSTECH.

The polytechnic was upgraded to a university status last week by the National Universities Commission, as it handed over the approval certificate to the state governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, in Abuja.

Abiola further alleged that Okebukola gave the directive during a meeting between members of the committee and the leadership of the union.

He said the union did have confidence in the committee.

The union leader said the lecturers were open to dialogue with the committee and vowed that they would resist any directive that could lead to the loss of jobs by the members.

The Zonal Coordinator of ASUP, Zone C in charge of South West, Adetunji Omobaorun, said the action of the lecturers has the backing and the blessing of the national body.

He argued that the government and the committee did not recognise the right and interest of the major stakeholders in their decision.

He said, “The committee and government have refused to give recognition to the plight of major stakeholders and our interest is not their interest. We say no to slave trading in the land of the black.”

The State President of the National Association of Nigerian Students, Balogun Olawale, also described the alleged directive “as wrong” advising that the government should be considerate.

However, Okebukola refuted all the claims in a statement he signed in Abeokuta on Wednesday, a copy of which was made available to our correspondent.

He said the claims were in contrast to the position of the committee that no member of staff would suffer job loss as a consequence of the upgrading of MAPOLY to MAUSTECH, and the establishment of Ogun State Polytechnic, Ipokia as the successor of MAPOLY.

The statement read in part, “We held a meeting with all staff at the beginning of our assignment and conveyed our position on job security.

“This position has been reechoed in subsequent meetings with staff unions. It is curious that some persons have taken undue liberty of misinforming the general public with the spread of such fake news.

“We have given the good people of Ogun State a pledge that in the shortest possible time, MAUSTECH and Ogun State Polytechnic, Ipokia will be among the brightest stars in the firmament of quality higher education in Nigeria, indeed in Africa.”

Any add and drop of courses must be done within this registration period. Failure to register within this registration period will amount to forfeiting the Academic Session.

Steps for Screening

On arrival, visit the University website  nsuk.edu.ng , on “NSUK PORTAL TAB”, select “Institute of Education -LVT Portal. Select “Returning Applicants Login”. Enter the email address and password you used during your application process and login to your profile. Click the “Accept Admission” button to accept the Admission. You will be required to pay a total of N10,300.00k (Bank charges inclusive). You can Pay using any of the following cards: Visa, Mastercard, Verve or download an invoice and proceed to any branch of the designated banks (listed below). Ask to Pay on “Remita Platform”.

Designated banks:

UBA, Diamond Bank, Ecobank PLC, First Bank, Unity Bank, Mainstreet Bank, Keystone Bank, FCMB, Zenith Bank.
Once Payment is done, download your Provisional Admission Letter, Screening Form, as well as your Acceptance Fee Receipt.

Proceed to Academic Office with all your credentials for Then to your Department and later to the Secretary of the Institute.

Note:

Make sure you are properly screened at the Academic Office before proceeding to the Department, and Secretary of the Institute. At this final stage, you will be “cleared” to pay your School fees.
If you need to change course, you can apply for “Change of Programme” from you “Applicant Login”. This cost N10,000.00k. This must be done before final

Paying of Fees

Once you are “Cleared”, return the Applicant Login on the Portal, and click on “Pay Fees”. On successful payment, a “Matriculation Number” will be generated alongside a “Password”.

Course Registration

Select “Student Login” on the Institute of Education – LVT Portal using the “Matriculation Number” and “Password” generated at the point of payment. Complete your profile, register your courses for the semester, download your course registration form (CRF)- 4 Copies, Download your Student Information Form (SIF). Take copies of the form along with your school fees payment receipt to your department to complete for registration.

Select “17” as the current session and click on Pay Fees. You have the option of Paying with VISA, MasterCard or Verve Card or generate an invoice to pay in Bank via Remita Platform. On successful payment, select “Course Registration Tab” to register your contact semester courses.

AAUA-Pre-Degree-Form

The Centre for Diploma and Pre-Degree studies of the Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA) is inviting suitably qualified candidates to its 2017/2018 academic session pre-degree programmes.

ADMISSION IMPORTANT INFORMATION

1.Admission into 100 level from Pre-degree is not automatic.

2. Pre-degree candidates are required to take the 2018 UTME and obtain the minimum pass mark of UTME for University and as agreed upon by the University.

3. Admission of candidates will be dependent on their Weighted Average in the two semesters, the UTME score and their ranking with respect to the cut-off marks for the chosen courses.

4. Any candidate who did not satisfy all the above conditions and still goes on to pay school fees into the university’s Account would forfeit such fund.

 REGISTRATION PROCEDURES

(i) Candidates are requested to log on to the University website: http://eportal.aaua.edu.ng and click on 2017/2018 AAUA Pre-degree Application.

(ii) On the Pre-degree Application page, click on Application payment confirmation and supply e-Transact receipt and confirmation order number obtained from bank to confirm your payment.

(iii) Once your confirmation is successful, log in with your receipt number.

(iv) Fill the Application form appropriately, submit online and immediately print-out an acknowledgement slip.

(v) Candidates are to come to the Examination Hall with the acknowledgement slip.

PLEASE NOTE:

Candidates are to register online on the University website between 12th June, 2017 and 16th September, 2017.
Entrance Examination will be conducted on Wednesday, 20th September, 2017 for Pre-degree
