The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) said candidates that registered for the 2017 computer based Unified Tertiary Matriculations Examinations (UTME) would take mock tests tomorrow being 8th April.

Prof Is-haq Oloyede,JAMB Registrar,Who made the announcement at a meeting held in Abuja with ‘internal stakeholders’ yesterday.

He stated that the mock exams which would take place tomorrow nationwide were aimed at preparing candidates for the real UTME examination. Only candidates that paid for the mock test will be eligible to sit tomorrow.

Prof Is-haq Oloyede said the challenges being encountered by candidates in the beginning of the UTME registration exercise has been resolved.

He said about one million UTME candidates have so far registered as at yesterday.

NOTE : -
Participation in the said mock examination is not compulsory but recommended by Jamb,as candidates can choose not to participate in the mock exams. But Interested candidates are to indicate their interest in the mock examination during the registration process.

There is a line on the JAMB Mock Exam Printout that states that if you miss the JAMB Mock Exam on 8th April, then you would forfeit the actual UTME exams in May.

This notice is mainly for those, who indicated they wanted to participate in the Mock Exam earlier during Registration.

In as much as we would not want to believe that JAMB is serious about effecting that harsh penalty, we would want to encourage everyone, who indicated interest to write the JAMB Mock Exam, to make sure they are present at the venue and time for the Mock Exam, as indicated on the print out of the slip.
This is clear sign that JAMB is obviously taking the UTME Mock Exam seriously, and they expect that if you indicated an interest to participate in the exam, then you should be serious about it and endeavor to participate in the exam.

JAMB may have set certain criteria, on maybe their handling capacity to conduct the 2017 UTME, and you may jeopardize the set threshold by not attending.
Please all candidates who have shown interest in the MOCK exam during their registration, should take this warning seriously.

The strike forced most students to stay indoors at their various residential areas, as the strike monitoring committee put in place by the union led by the Chairman of the ASUU in the Branch, Dr Deji Omole monitored development.

The chiarman Dr Deji Omole, who moved round the faculties to monitor absolute compliance, described the strike as successful and urged its members to continue to defend their interests.
“The congress of ASUU, branched at UI, at its meeting of April 4, received permission from the national body of the union, declaring one week warning strike beginning from yesterday, April 5th to Tuesday, April 11th,” he said.
He said the warning strike was aimed to compel the university administration to address pending welfare matters affecting their members.

He listed some of the pending issues to include,

  1. shortfall and fractional payment of salary of members,
  2. illegal pension deductions,
  3. non-payment of postgraduate supervision allowance

HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES URGE JAMB TO MAKE AN EXTENSION TO UTME EXAM DEADLINE

The House of Representatives has called on the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB to extend the registration deadline for the registration of 2017 UTME.

This came after the motion raised by Danburan Nuhu (Kano-APC).
According to Mr. Nuhu during the 2016 UTME exercise, about 1.6 million applicants registered for the UTME and about one million passed. He stated that the 2017 exercise might reach 2 million across the country given the growing number of applicants.

He noted that some of the approved registration centres are registering only 250 applicants at a time; most of them do not have enough space and adequate number of computers which has constituted a major set back to the speed and adequate productivity of the registration process.

He therefore beckoned on JAMB to specify the requirements including safety measures, that approved centres need to put in place in order to participate in the conduct of UTME Computer Based Test and ensure to deploy safety equipment and personnel to each centre to forestall any occurance of stampede due to overcrowding.

The motion was unanimously adopted by the House and the committee on basic education was mandated to direct JAMB to comply as soon as possible with the resolutions reached by the house.

The JAMB had earlier stated that it has no plans of extending the registration deadline but with this development, we are simply expecting the matriculation board to see to reason and have the deadline extended in order accommodate the teeming population who are yet to register for the examination

Students Already Admitted Into Tertiary Institutions Not Legible For UTME Examination

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) is here hereby informing the general public and intending candidates for 2017 UTME that students who had already already been admitted into any tertiary institution nationwide will not be eligible to sit for the 2017 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

This information was made public by the JAMB's Head of Information and Public Relations, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, who made this known on Monday 3rd March, that students who are not satisfied with their course should simply apply for change of degree.

He stated, "Students with matriculation numbers of universities are not eligible to sit for the UTME. If they are not satisfied with their chosen disciplines or course of study, they can ask for transfer or change of degree.’’

The JAMB spokesperson also expressed confidence that despite the hitches in the registration process being witnessed across the country, all 1.5m candidates expected to register for the 2017 UTME would be registered by the April 19th deadline.

He make it clear that there would be no extension to the April 19th deadline closing date of the 2017/2018 UTME registration, therefore aspiring candidates should ensure that they finish their registration processing within the speculated application open dates to avoid their applications being rejected or discarded.

JAMB's Head of Information and Public Relations, Dr. Fabian Benjamin also said that the exam body have arrested 25 persons for illegal registration and sale of 2017 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) materials, and also warning candidates over patronizing such illegal persons.
Federal Government To Activate Online Registration Processing Of Unemployed Nigerians

This revelation came to light through information released by the Deputy Director, Information & Public Relations, National Directorate of Employment (NDE), Edmund Onwuliri, the development is a part of the government quest to keep a robust data base for unemployed persons and provide meaningful jobs for unemployed Nigerians.

The registration, according to him, is in compliance with the third mandate of the NDE which requires the body “to obtain and maintain a data bank on employment and vacancies in the country with a view to acting as a clearing house to link job seekers with vacancies in collaboration with other government agencies.”

Deputy Director,Mr Edmund Onwuliri categorically disclosed the framework for the online registration, being handled by the Directorate stating that it has been completed and ready for lunch; adding that the NDE has also completed the framework for the electronic registration of unemployed persons in Nigeria.

He said: “The online portal which goes live on Wednesday April 5, 2017, is designed to capture the relevant details of any unemployed person. It will equally serve as a job exchange portal that will link job seekers and employers.
“There will be a practical demonstration of the workings of the portal at the NDE stand at the on-going 28th edition of the Enugu International Trade on Thursday April 6, 2017. However, the portal can be accessed by logging on to www.jobsforall.ng. The Directorate sees this initiative as a bold step towards deepening the effectiveness of its employment creation strategies and a critical input into the process of designing, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of programmes and schemes.”

The online portal will also serve as a meeting point for job seekers and employers thereby reducing the cumbersome process of recruitment among employers of skilled labour in the private and public sectors.
This initiative is a welcome development, once the program is officially launched at least the lingering unemployment menace currently in Nigeria will experience a downward slope. At least this is a message of hope to all undergraduates and fresh graduates from our highly populated High institutions.
The Students Union Government (SUG) of the University of Jos(UNIJOS) has been  dissolved. In its place, a Five-man Caretaker Committee has been officially constituted with immediate effect.

The University of Jos, UNIJOS have dissolved the Students Union Government (SUG) of the university, subsequently the Vice-Chancellor directed the SUG officials to handover all properties belonging to the Union in their possession with immediate effect.
Speaking during the inauguration of the Caretaker Committee,The Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Seddi Sebastian Maimako have listed reasons for the dissolution of the Students Union Government(SUG) which was majorly centered on the decision of its members to convene a meeting of Students without due approval from the Directorate of Students Affairs which resulted in a protest where the Students were carrying placards against the School Administration for implementing a Federal Government directive of new School Charges for all Federal Government Universities.

The SUG officials had similarly mobilized Students to attend the Stakeholders meeting with parents uninvited and were shouting down parents during the course of the meeting.

The Vice-Chancellor added other reasons for the dissolution to include externalizing an internal issue affecting the University without following due and acceptable laid down procedures for conflict resolution in the University, intimidating and issuing threats to law abiding Students including fresh Students who are willing to comply with the payment of the new School Charges.

The SUG officials were also accused of maligning the Principal Officers of the University including the Vice- Chancellor on various media platforms including the social media while giving wrong information to members of the public on the actions taken by the University Authorities in the process of implementing the new School Charges.
Professor Maimako explained that Management had on different occasions invited the SUG officials for dialogue on the matter of the harmonized school charges for Federal Universities but they had remained persistently stubborn  and refused to see reason or reach an understanding with the school authority.
According to the Vice-Chancellor, all the actions taken by the dissolved SUG officials clearly indicate their desire to disrupt the smooth running of the University activities.
While announcing the dissolution, the Vice-Chancellor directed the SUG officials to handover all properties belonging to the Union in their possession with immediate effect.
Professor Maimako also announced the immediate constitution of a Five-Man Caretaker Committee of the Students Union Government Chiares by Wuyep Gideon Nansar , Timdi Nkat as Secretary, Yilmazaka Philip Gershinen, Idi Christopher Ishaku and Ekweozor Chukugozie Nzube as Members. The Vice-Chancellor have charged the members of the Caretaker Committee to maintain the spirit of discipline and dedication in line with the University’s motto.
Responding on behalf of the other members, the Chairman of the Caretaker Committee, Wuyep Gideon Nansar have promised that they would do all in their power to maintain the University's intergrity and will also give their best to contribute to the progress and peace of the institution and use their bulk of experience and expertise to work with the Students, Management and Stakeholders for the benefit of the system.

FOR EASIER E-PIN PURCHASE,JAMB INTRODUCES PAYMENT PORTALS FROM REMITA

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has recently disclosed that eligible candidates for the 2017 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) can now make easy purchase the pin for registration using the Remita payment portal.
The board on Sunday stated that the development came on the heels of the reported challenges the candidates faced in an attempt to acquire the pins from NIPOST and the designated banks.

Candidates Complain About Inability To Get ePINS For UTME Registration

Dr Fabian Benjamin,The Head of Information for JAMB,  said the board had noted the many headaches of prospective candidates from various parts of the country, including Lagos.
He said that candidates had complained biterly on the difficulties involved in obtaining the pins from designated banks on the payment of N5,500 and the subsequent hassles in getting registered. The registration of candidates for the examination has long started since March 20th 2017.
The candidates had described the process as cumbersome and frustrating as they have to queue as early as 2 or 3 a.m. in some cases in banks just to acquire pins.
They had also said that often times, they spent the entire day waiting endlessly without results as the bank officials tell them that they could not access the site for the pins.
They also said the development normally warranted them to spend almost an entire week trying and that even when they succeeded, they start facing the task of registration at overcrowded centres.
According to Benjamin, candidates are advised not to panic as every eligible candidate desirous of registering will do so before the closing date of April 19.

“We appreciate the fact that the sales of the UTME for 2017 which is hitherto set to last for six has been reduced to one month.
“This was done in the interest of the candidates as it was to ensure that the challenges candidates are going through are resolved.
“To further cushion the effect of these challenges, we have decided to bring the Remitta mode on board.
“Candidates can now purchase the pin for registration from the comfort of their homes.
“So, aside the banks and NIPOST, candidates can now purchase the pins through Remita,’’ Benjamin said in a statement.
The statement explained why the board banned cyber cafes from registering candidates for the examination, noting that activities in the cafes damaged records and statistics of candidates.
“In as much as we want to be inclusive, we cannot look the other way while students’ records and national statistics are mutilated.
“Ours is an examination, so we cannot be guided by primordial consideration over quality and standard,’’ it said.
According to the released statement, most problems associated with candidates’ registration such as wrong spellings of names, wrongful placement of passport photograph and others emanates from the business centres at registration points.
“Don’t forget, it is virtually impossible to regulate the activities of these business centres as their mode of operations did not provide necessary details about them.
“These problems created by cafes make information gathering, processing and administration of examination cumbersome as records and data of candidates are distorted.“The accreditation centres are on the board’s website for easy identification cohesion and smooth operation,’’ it explained.
He added that the board would continue to expand the frontiers and channels of the sales of the pins in virtually all the banks, with a view to bringing the services to the door step of every Nigerian child desirous of qualitative tertiary education.
According to the statement, examination is a serious business and it cannot be left open the way some people want it to be.
“We again urge Nigerians particularly anxious candidates not to fall prey to unsuspecting and dubious individuals who parade themselves as agents of JAMB with the intention to defraud them.“The board’s e-brochures and syllabus are on the CD to be given out to candidates and it is free and available as a guide to candidates to have a hitch-free registration exercise,’’ the statement reads.
