The management of Federal University Of Technology Owerri(FUTO),is been rumored to have charged students for destruction and loss of college properties worth millions.
We recall the ugly incident which took place On the 17th of February,where students of Federal University of Technology Owerri(FUTO) embarked on a proposed peaceful protest(over the increment of school fees,high course registration,presence of only one bank in school and denied WiFi service)

The protest which turned sour leading to the destruction and looting of school’s property, forced the school management to temporary shutdown the institution.
The verdict for their act and acceptance back to school, is a fine of N4,950. The school management has equally agreed that the only qualifications for entry into the school premises upon resumption by March 20, 2017, would be payment of the stipulated fee. Which would be collected via the school’s portal from March 4th to March 11th and a letter of undertaking to be of good behavior, written and endorsed by their parents/guardians, which must be supported by a court affidavit.

The management said that the fees would be used to replace damaged facilities at the course of the protest.
Though this information is yet to be comfirmed or made official by the school management,as no memo has been issued regarding the penalty on student regarding the damaged facilities.

ReplyDeleteThe damage billing program is based on the idea that charges related to damage are assessed to residents or local groups living in close proximity to the place of the actual damages. The purpose of the damage billing Program is to decrease residence hall fees rather than increase room charges by adding built-in charges for apartment or public area damages. Though, residents may challenge through the appeals procedure to have any damage billing charges, but via online education they do not need to pay any damage charges because through these programs they can buy degree online or earn degree without going university.
