A 200 level student of Lead City University, Ibadan, Moshood Owolabi,who stabbed a fellow student to death has been sentenced to death by hanging.
Justice Adegboye Gbolagunte of an Ibadan High Court condemned,In his ruling on Wednesday, Owolabi to death by hanging for causing the death of one Seun Kolawole, two years ago.
A Physical and Health Education Department student, Owolabi caused the death of Kolawole by stabbing him with a bottle that led to his death.
According to the judge,the counsel prosecuting the case, A. Olawale, a Deputy Director in the Oyo State Ministry of Justice had proved the case beyond reasonable doubt.
He stated that the evidence tendered before him showed that the accused committed the offence as charged so is found guilty.
He sentenced him to death by hanging to serve as deterrent and lesson to others who take pride in taking human lives.
The judge further advised guardians and parents to always watch their children to prevent them from misbehaving and causing harm to others around them or the society at large.
The prosecutor had earlier told the court that the convict stabbed Kolawole with a broken bottle in the neck, following a misunderstanding between him and the deceased.
He explained that the injury sustained as a result of his action resulted to the death of the victim Kolawole.
Olawale said that the incident happened on Jan. 12, 2014 at toll-gate area of Ibadan.
Its quite unfortunate that this young scholar has laid waste to his life,in such a horrible manner,one which could have been averted had he applied little caution and discipline to the events that led to the unfortunate occurance.
Students are hereby advised to focus on their studies and quite cultism and other vises that can cut their lives short or prevent them from achieving their academic goals.
